Vessel Construction

Over the past 30 years, Ontario Shipyards has methodically built up a robust marine construction reputation in Canada. A wide variety of projects have floated off our dry docks in Hamilton Harbour: from workboats to barges, cable ferries and sub-sea cable-laying equipment. As our business has grown, so has our production capacity. With the acquisition of the Port Weller Dry Docks in 2017, Ontario Shipyards is even better situated to take on complex construction projects.

Vessel Maintenance and Overhaul

Repairs, maintenance and conversion projects have been the foundation of our business since our inception. From emergency repairs to special survey dry dockings and vessel life extension projects, OntarioShipyards has experience from stem to stern. Steel replacement, re-powering, structural re-modeling and accommodation retrofits are just a few of the areas in which our experienced workforce excels. Large or small, alongside or on the blocks, Ontario Shipyards is ready to take on your most ambitious project.

Recycling

Responsible ship recycling is an important component of a vessel’s life cycle. Requiring careful planning and execution, an effective ship recycling process ensures that vessels are appropriately disposed of at the end of their usage life. Ontario Shipyards is committed to protecting our waterways through the safe and timely recycling of ships in the most environmentally sensitive ways.

Welding

Ontario Shipyards offers a comprehensive range of welding services to meet diverse project needs. Our team is experienced in carbon steel and alloy welding, stainless steel welding, and low-temperature steel fabrication. We also specialize in brazing, clad welding, and ensure quality through non-destructive testing. With a focus on precision and reliability, we are equipped to handle complex welding requirements across various marine applications.

Mechanical/Machining

Ontario Shipyards provides expert mechanical and machining services to support vessel performance and longevity. Our capabilities include working with hydraulic couplings, steering gears, and propulsion components, as well as machinery removal, installation, and rebuilds. We offer precision milling, hydraulic cylinder services, and liner or sleeve installations, ensuring that each project is completed to the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Electrical

Our expertise covers shore power connections, power setups for vessel layups, and the installation of navigational equipment. We handle generator and motor services, all types of cable installations, and transformer installations with precision. Additionally, we provide breaker services, instrumentation work, transducer installations, cable transit setups, and distribution equipment installations — all executed with a commitment to safety and technical excellence.

Carpentry

Our team handles interior carpentry projects including cabinet and furnishing installations, galley installations, and carpet and flooring work. With attention to detail and a focus on durability, we ensure that every carpentry project meets the functional and aesthetic needs of our clients.
